This new study was done at Rutgers (where I got my PhD – go Scarlet Knights!) – and supports earlier studies that COVID-19 is far from being “just” a respiratory virus – it infects your lungs, but also your gut, your brain, your circulatory system, and your nervous system (and maybe a lot more that we don’t know about yet).

Previous research has shown that people tend to do “worse” with COVID-19 infections when they have an unbalanced microbiome – including those who suffer from “post-COVID” symptoms often referred to as “Long COVID” – with typical problems including fatigue, anxiety, and brain fog.
