About Dr. Shawn Talbott

While it was humiliating, I’m grateful.

Because it got me to where I’m supposed to be.

The scene: a triathlon near Keene, NH.

A lifelong athlete, including time with the US National Team for rowing and the Olympic Training Center for cycling, I went in thinking I was all that and a bag of chips.

While I didn’t think I’d win, I thought I’d finish solidly in the top half of the pack.

But at each leg I found myself without the energy to pass anyone.

While I didn’t think I’d win, I thought I’d finish solidly in the top half of the pack.

But at each leg I found myself without the energy to pass anyone.

Instead, people were passing me.

Lots of ‘em.

By the time I reached the final running leg, I stopped counting how many.

You ever been skiing and had these 7 year-olds zipping past you?

Kind of like that.

Determined to finish, I pressed on and began feeling a bit of relief when I saw the finish line.

But relief was short-lived.

Because as I got closer I could see everyone gathering for the awards ceremony.

The top finishers were already showered, dressed, and sipping recovery drinks.

And the announcer, on a booming PA, was saying…

“Ok, everybody! We’re about to start the…no, wait, hold on, we’ve got one more competitor out there, let’s all cheer him on!”

I finished DFL.

DEAD FREAKIN’ LAST!

And while you could say, “at least you finished,” I’m a competitor, so that wasn’t going to cut it.

Embarrassment is a powerful motivator.

Not only did I continue to train, I researched, changed my nutrition, and did everything I could to not have THAT happen again.

I returned the next year…

And still didn’t pass anyone.

Because I led the entire time.

Not only did I win, I set a new course record.

And that’s when I fully understood the powerful impact nutrition has on performance.

Thing is, that’s only the beginning of the story…there’s more.

Excited about my findings, I went full-bore into sports nutrition, helping elite athletes optimize their performance. But while I was thriving and relishing these opportunities, others weren’t .

My brother struggled with anxiety and stress.

He resorted to drugs as a coping strategy.

And eventually died of an overdose.

This is where I made the true discovery that fuels my purpose.

While I enjoy working with elite athletes, it’s normal, everyday people who have the most to gain from optimizing their nutrition and sleep habits.

Rather than relying on synthetic drugs (pharmaceutical or recreational) that only address the symptoms, we can choose natural foods that address our health NEEDS long before they become health PROBLEMS.

So that’s why I’m here.

I believe that we’ve arrived at an ideal crossroads of traditional medicine backed by science.

We are now able to look at 3000 year-old remedies and understand WHY they work.

And rather than depend on synthetic drugs, we are able to purposely shape our diets to optimize our health.

I’m happy to have you along for the journey.
