Dark Side of Antioxidants?

Dr. Shawn Talbott (Ph.D., CNS, LDN, FACSM, FACN, FAIS) has gone from triathlon struggler to gut-brain guru! With a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry, he's on a mission to boost everyday human performance through the power of natural solutions and the gut-brain axis.

It’s been a busy week of travel between Florida and Arizona.

Early this week, I was in Orlando for the Direct Selling Association (DSA) conference, and was invited for an interview about nutrition and antioxidants with the NBC affiliate in Tampa – WFLA News 8.

Last night, I gave a nutrition seminar in Tucson, Arizona and was invited this morning to also talk about antioxidant nutrition on Tucson’s Morning Blend news program (ABC affiliate – KGUN News 9).

Tonight is another seminar in Phoenix – and we’re hoping for a door-busting crowd to hear about how to best-protect your health, so you can Feel Your Best – Look Your Best – and Perform Your Best.

(Update = the crowd at the Phoenix meeting was indeed “busting out the door” – with close to 600 people at a standing-room-only event).

In both TV interviews, we talked about the “dark side” of antioxidant vitamins (such as E, C, beta-carotene, and others) that I write about in my forthcoming book, “Deadly Antioxidants – Why Your Daily Vitamins May Be Causing Cancer and Shortening Your Life (and How You Can Turn on Your Body’s Own Antioxidants for Optimal Health)”

The book will be published in January 2015, but there is already a lot of “buzz” about it with more than a dozen radio interviews and a number of upcoming television interviews. You can check out a sample chapter here.

Last thing – lots of people have been asking me to re-post the link to my recent TEDx Talk about cellular stress and the Qi of Goldilocks. The quality of the audio and video is not great, but – it’s on YouTube as well as the TEDx Sandy website HERE  – enjoy!

Thanks for reading…

Shawn

  • Shawn,
I’ve just finished your book, The Cortisol Connection. I found it extremely helpful in understanding the connections with bodily systems. I was disappointed that there was no discussion regarding LOW cortisol levels, which I find identified in myself, along with low testosterone. Can you point me in the direction of resources to help me explore that connection as well? (I’m 63 and retired 3 years ago from a very high-stress career.) I would greatly appreciate any guidance/help you can provide!
